Le Groenland contient beaucoup de métaux spéciaux appelés terres rares. Les gens les utilisent pour fabriquer des téléphones, des ordinateurs et des fusées.
La plupart de ces métaux proviennent maintenant de Chine, mais les États-Unis et l’Europe veulent trouver leur propre approvisionnement. Une entreprise appelée Critical Metals veut ouvrir une mine dans le sud du Groenland. L’exploitation minière y est difficile parce que c’est loin, froid et qu’il y a peu de moyens de transport. Certains habitants espèrent que cela apportera de nouveaux emplois et de l’argent. D’autres s’inquiètent pour l’environnement.
Le monde entier observe la situation car le Groenland pourrait devenir un lieu important pour ces matériaux précieux.
