Trois fabricants de cigarettes, Philip Morris, British American Tobacco et Japan Tobacco, paieront 23,6 milliards de dollars pour mettre fin à un grave problème au Canada.

Les gens poursuivent les compagnies en justice. Elles ne disent pas aux gens que fumer est dangereux. Mais depuis les années 1950, tout le monde sait que fumer provoque le cancer. Un tribunal du Québec déclare que les compagnies doivent payer 15 milliards de dollars aux fumeurs. Leurs bureaux canadiens demandent de l’aide. Ils ne disposent pas d’autant d’argent. Depuis 2019, les entreprises discutent de la façon de payer. Mais elles ne savent toujours pas comment partager l’argent entre elles. Elles prendront une décision en décembre 2024.
