La flamme olympique commence à Rome. Sur une grande place sportive, le dirigeant du pays allume le feu. La flamme se rend à Milan pour les Jeux d’hiver. C’est le début d’un long voyage.
De nombreuses stars du sport apportent leur aide le premier jour. Un sportif donne le flambeau à un autre. Un joueur de basket-ball ayant un problème de santé difficile tient le flambeau. Les gens applaudissent beaucoup. C’est un moment fort pour beaucoup de gens.
Ensuite, les dirigeants des groupes sportifs portent le flambeau à travers la ville. Un joueur de tennis rencontre de nombreuses personnes dans un grand espace ouvert. Le soir, un autre joueur de basket prend la flamme près d’un grand bâtiment ancien. La flamme traverse ensuite toutes les régions d’Italie. Elle fera le tour de l’Italie pendant 63 jours.
