Les gens utilisent des fusées pour aller dans l’espace. Ce n’est pas donné. Les fusées sont lourdes. Elles ont besoin de beaucoup de carburant pour décoller. Il faut des millions de dollars pour aller sur la Lune ou sur Mars.

Depuis longtemps, les scientifiques pensent à un ascenseur spatial. L’ascenseur utilise la gravité terrestre. Mais les gens n’ont pas les bons matériaux et les bonnes technologies pour le construire. Aucun matériau n’est assez solide.

Une idée consiste à utiliser des nanotubes de carbone. Ce matériau ressemble à des tubes. Il s’agit d’un grand nombre d’atomes de carbone assemblés. Les nanotubes de carbone sont plus résistants que les autres matériaux. Mais il y a un problème. Des millions d’objets volent dans l’atmosphère. Même si les gens construisent l’ascenseur, ces objets l’endommageront probablement.
