Francis Drake a été le premier scientifique à chercher de la vie en dehors de notre planète.
En 1960, Drake a commencé les recherches pour trouver quelques signaux après avoir pointé des télescopes sur deux étoiles. Ses recherches n’ont pas abouti, mais il s’est demandé combien d’autres civilisations existaient dans l’univers. Il a conclu que 10 000 civilisations pouvaient avoir le genre de technologie que les gens pouvaient détecter.
Dans les années 1970, les scientifiques ont détecté un signal, mais il ne s’est jamais répété par la suite. Aujourd’hui, les scientifiques se concentrent sur les exoplanètes, qui sont des planètes situées en dehors de notre système solaire. Certaines d’entre elles se trouvent à la bonne distance du soleil, tout comme notre planète. L’une d’entre elles est Kepler-186f, et les scientifiques espèrent y trouver de l’eau.
Beaucoup de gens croient que les extraterrestres existent et qu’ils visitent notre planète. Les gens voient parfois des ovnis et pensent qu’il pourrait s’agir d’extraterrestres.
