Une entreprise appelée Preventive obtient 30 millions de dollars pour étudier comment modifier les gènes des bébés avant leur naissance. C’est ce qu’on appelle l’édition du génome.
L’entreprise affirme que cela permet d’arrêter la maladie chez les bébés. Les personnes qui aiment cette idée disent qu’elle aide les gens à rester en bonne santé. Mais beaucoup de gens n’aiment pas ce projet. Ils s’inquiètent de la sécurité. Ils craignent également que les parents essaient de choisir les caractéristiques de leur bébé, comme dans l’eugénisme.
Si les médecins modifient les gènes d’un bébé, ces changements se répercutent sur tous les enfants à venir. Le risque est donc très grand. Il existe déjà d’autres moyens d’arrêter la maladie. L’entreprise doit montrer que ses recherches sont sûres.
