Exxon achète Pioneer – niveau 3

Exxon Mobil a accepté d’acquérir son rival américain Pioneer Natural Resources dans le cadre d’une transaction entièrement en actions évaluée à 59,5 milliards de dollars, ce qui en fait le plus grand producteur dans le plus grand champ pétrolifère des États-Unis, le bassin permien.

L’accord associe la plus grande compagnie pétrolière américaine à Pioneer, un acteur important de la révolution du schiste qui a fait des États-Unis le plus grand producteur de pétrole au monde en un peu plus d’une décennie. La société fusionnée a pour objectif d’augmenter considérablement la production de pétrole et de gaz et de réduire les émissions de gaz à effet de serre en combinant la technologie d’Exxon et les coûts opérationnels plus faibles de Pioneer. Le PDG de Pioneer, Scott Sheffield, rejoindra le conseil d’administration d’Exxon, mais la direction de l’entreprise fusionnée n’a pas encore été déterminée.

L’opération devrait être conclue au début de 2024, et elle ne prévoit pas de défis antitrust.
