Un astéroïde pourrait frapper la Terre – niveau 2

L’année dernière, les scientifiques ont trouvé un astéroïde 2024 YR4, qu’ils surveillent car il pourrait heurter la Terre.
L’astéroïde mesure entre 40 et 90 mètres de large et pourrait s’approcher de la Terre le 22 décembre 2032. Il y a une faible probabilité, environ 2 %, qu’il heurte notre planète. Les scientifiques affirment qu’il n’y a pas lieu de s’inquiéter car la probabilité qu’il manque la Terre reste très élevée. Lorsque les astronomes repèrent un astéroïde, ils ne savent pas exactement où il ira. Au fur et à mesure qu’ils recueillent des informations, ils peuvent mieux calculer sa trajectoire. S’ils voient qu’il se dirige vers la Terre, ils peuvent essayer de changer sa direction. La NASA a testé cette méthode en frappant un astéroïde avec un engin spatial.
Pour l’instant, les scientifiques vont continuer à étudier 2024 YR4 avant qu’il ne devienne invisible en mai, et ils ne le reverront pas avant 2028.
