Miss Mexique, Fatima Bosch, a remporté le titre de Miss Univers en Thaïlande.
La compétition a été pleine d’arguments et de controverses. Juste avant le spectacle final, Miss Bosch et d’autres concurrentes ont quitté un événement parce qu’un officiel l’a grondée publiquement et les a toutes menacées. Plus tard, deux juges ont démissionné, et l’un d’eux a déclaré que les organisateurs truquaient le concours. Le groupe Miss Univers a déclaré que ce n’était pas vrai. Malgré les problèmes, le concours s’est poursuivi et a même inclus Miss Palestine pour la première fois. Bosch a continué à concourir et a remporté la couronne.
Le concours Miss Univers de cette année a connu de nombreux problèmes, mais il a finalement pris fin.
