Les rhinocéros sont de retour au Congo – niveau 3

16 rhinocéros blancs du Sud ont été relocalisés avec succès dans le parc national de la Garamba en République démocratique du Congo, marquant ainsi un effort de conservation important.
Le dernier rhinocéros a été braconné dans la région il y a près de 16 ans. L’introduction de ces rhinocéros vise à rétablir l’équilibre écologique dans le parc et à remplir potentiellement le rôle du rhinocéros blanc du Nord, aujourd’hui disparu. Le transfert a été rendu possible grâce à une collaboration entre l’Institut congolais pour la conservation de la nature, African Parks et Beyond, avec le parrainage de la Barrick Gold Corporation.
En élargissant l’aire de répartition et en créant de nouveaux nœuds de reproduction, cette initiative contribue à la conservation à long terme des rhinocéros blancs en Afrique. La réintroduction des rhinocéros dans le parc national de la Garamba est prometteuse pour l’économie faunique du parc et le bien-être des communautés locales.
