Ilia II, le chef de l’Église géorgienne, est décédé la semaine dernière. Il avait 93 ans. Il a dirigé l’Église pendant très longtemps, depuis 1977. À cette époque, il était difficile de pratiquer sa religion en Géorgie, qui faisait partie de l’Union soviétique.

Mais Ilia II a travaillé dur, et l’Église est devenue très forte. Beaucoup de gens dans le pays l’aimaient et le respectaient. Il a aidé le pays quand il y avait de gros problèmes ou des conflits entre les politiciens. C’était un dirigeant calme qui voulait la paix pour tout le monde. L’Église dit qu’il était une personne très importante dans l’histoire.

À présent, l’Église doit choisir un nouveau chef d’ici deux mois. Les Géorgiens sont très tristes d’avoir perdu leur chef spirituel. Il était comme un père pour beaucoup de Géorgiens.
