Le Juneteenth a lieu le 19 juin de chaque année. C’est un jour férié américain depuis 2021.
Cette journée est consacrée à la libération des esclaves noirs en Amérique. Les gens commencent à le célébrer dans le Sud. D’autres personnes s’y intéressent après les manifestations en faveur de George Floyd en 2020. La police le tue. Les gens célèbrent le dix juin dans les rues. Dans certains États, ce jour férié n’existe pas encore. Ils n’ont pas de loi à ce sujet.
Le 19 juin 1865, un général libère des esclaves au Texas. Cela se produit deux ans après la proclamation d’émancipation du président Lincoln. Le Texas fait du 19 juin un jour férié en 1980. Aujourd’hui, ce jour férié est célébré dans de nombreux États américains. Le 19 juin nous fait également réfléchir aux problèmes raciaux qui existent aujourd’hui aux États-Unis.
